Lamberts takes great care to ensure the purity of the 5-HTP used in this product which is extracted from a natural source, the seeds of a plant called Griffonia. The extract from this plant is now one of the most extensively used supplements worldwide and is particularly popular in the USA where it has a long history of use. Lamberts tablets are manufactured in the UK to pharmaceutical GMP standards.
5-HTP, short for 5-hydroxytryptophan, is a derivative of tryptophan, an amino acid that is present in high protein foods such as meat and dairy products and whilst the body makes its own 5-HTP from tryptophan it is able to use the 5-HTP provided by supplements.
5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) is a chemical by-product of the protein building block L-tryptophan. It is also produced commercially from the seeds of an African plant known as Griffonia simplicifolia 5-HTP is used for sleep disorders such as insomnia, depression, anxiety, migraine and tension-type headaches, fibromyalgia, obesity, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), seizure disorder, and Parkinson's disease..
How does it work?
5-HTP works in the brain and central nervous system by increasing the production of the chemical serotonin. Serotonin can affect sleep, appetite, temperature and pain sensation. Since 5-HTP increases the synthesis of serotonin, it is used for several diseases where serotonin is believed to play an important role including depression, insomnia, obesity, and many other conditions.
Daily Intake: Up to 3 tablets. Half an hour before meals or half an hour before bedtime. Start on one tablet and increase if necessary. 5-HTP is best taken for periods of up to 3 months.
